I have no problem buying a site from a website "flipper". Especially if they are honest enough to admit it. * You don't have to give an 'excuse' for selling a website....just sell it.

But I can see where people get tired of the lame 'not enough time' drivel. And then in the same paragraph the seller will say it only takes 2 hours a week or something to run the site.

Ever thought about hiring someone? That's how businesses grow.

It is hard to find and afford to hire real professionals. How many site owners can hire a professional for $20 per hour even more? There are mostly unqualified people around. They may hurt my sites easily and unintentionally. Lack of time is a valid reason for me to sell my sites. It's not a lame excuse for me as a seller.

People sell for numerous reasons....financial, personal, or time. I have no problem buying a site that needs attention, its no different than buying a used car and fixing it up.

They sell because they have lost interest in their site, because they think it is a low earner, or it has reached it's potential, or it looks lame and they want to start fresh with a new idea, or maybe they think the original idea was lame, and are lazy in bringing it to new heights, it also means they didn't had a proper business model for the site, that's why it was 'stuck' in the process of building itself, it is usually a quick free script site.

but if a person has a lot of good sites, and he knows to build them with proper plan, then it's a business and can sell good sites, but it's rare.

I sold 3 of my sites, because they are not making much as compared to the time they require. So, for me "I don't have time" is not a lame excuse.

It depends upon the website owner's mind. If he wants $20/hr from his site and he fails to get it (for example he gets $10/hr), he will simply sell it by saying "I don't have time to manage it and you can earn $600/month just by working two hours a day from it".

But, it does not mean that it is same for others. May be someone wants $5/hr from his site. So, it is worthwhile for him to buy it.

And if the owner sells it, you should not say that the owner is making a lame excuse!

    Exactly.

Sometimes new projects are going to take more development dollars. Especially on custom scripts.

The fact is, if a website is *really* earning decent amount of money even few bucks a day, nobody would want to sell it for a small fee of few hundred bucks. You can easily cover back the money if you would have sold it by just leaving it there.

I don't care why someone is selling their site.

It's likely someone you don't know so anything that can't be verified should be completely ignored.

    Like the reason for sale.

Ignore it completely. It's irrelevant what reason the seller gives. It may be a fictitious reason created to hide the main reason. And the main reason may be that it's a crap site and on the decline. Or it could simply be that the real reason is embarrasing or confidential (like he's planning to divorce his wife and he's getting rid of his assets)

Don't go by the reason he gives you because no matter what the reason is you've got to do your due diligence, do all your checks, develop confidence in the site and be convinced it's going to work for you. So from the buyer's point of view - concentrate on what you can check, not what you can't!

This is what separates the men from the boys.

The "reasons" do not mean shit. Who fucking cares. If you want the site, check the stats, sales, and so forth. If the numbers check out, who gives a shit on his reason. Buy it!

His misfortune is your benefit. Cash in...

The most webmaster sell their sites because they don't get enought profit from them or simply they have new projects that bring them more money. Also there are some persons who do site building for a living, they simply have a idea and make a small site and sell it for a fairly small sum of money( this persons usualy don't know to how to value their website because they haven't had the change to read something like a tutorial about valuing websites . So if you don't want to spend too much money on a website you should know hpo to estimate a website value.
