What's the real benefit of article submission?

I'm new to article submissions and have published about eight so far. I'm still trying to see where I get the biggest benefit.

Is it number of backlinks, PR improvement or clickthroughs to my site? Is it all three equally or do you all see one benefit more than the others?

I know the article site is doing well from the page views of my articles, but I'm not sure what to think yet about the traffic I'm getting back. I see about a 10-12% clickthrough on my articles so far, according to the article site, but my Analytics account says I get less than half that number. So some people apparently are clicking and then bailing out when a new browser pops up.

    What's your experience?

The 'King' content will make people link or maybe copy some of your content and link back to your site. That will give you backlink. The more you write the great articles, the more backlinks and traffic you'll get. Just 8 articles is not enough for quality and more quantity of backlinks. Thanks

Content is the main one. You can put your keywords in the article body. So it's a great method to create backlinks to your web site. From my experience i have seen a lot of improvements in SERP after article submissions.

I believe the idea here is to get backlinks for specific keywords.

not so much for PR improvement as most of the article sites will not give you any PR to your article by itself unless you promote the published articles yourself. there are handfull of authority article directories that are exceptions which will give you PR to your article over time. depending on where you submit and how many article you submit, you will get some traffic to the articles and some will even click on your link to visit your site which is an added benefit. main benefit would be relevant contextual backlinks which will increase your SERP

Never ever stop writing, you make an article marketing strategy that you can follow and writing article in sets is the best tip. I have found that the traffic increases when you write continously around your main niche topic....

And I suppose the main benefit is that you create yourself as an expert through providing unique and useful article content.:)

Even though people seem to shy away from clicking on the link in the article, or kill the second browser that pops up, I seem to be getting more visits from people who type in the url.

In other words, they would rather type the url in their current browser than launch a new one by clicking on the link.

I'll cross my fingers and hope the traffic improves over time.

some article directories have high PR and drop you some 'linkjuice' if you have relevant linking keywords in your singnature box, (make sure you don;t use the same keyword over and over again), so this will benefit your own PR. also real visitors might see your article and find their way to your site. i my opinion you should make this part of your linkbuilding strategy. i use some software to make this tasks easier..

Haas2, by using software to make it easier, do you mean you submit the same article to multiple sites? If so, I also wonder about that one because I see sharp debates in other forums about whether sites get penalized by Google for duplicate content. Just wondering.
