After launching your site, how long did it take before you started getting consisitant traffic daily and how did you do it. Also, if anyone can help, how many backlinks would I need to do in order to get on a keyword search that gets 4 million searches a month? Thanks
It depends on your keyword and your link profile. It is most likely 6 months minimum to get steady traffics for medium competitive keywords.
When I started my jewellery based website.. initially I had 50 visits a day in webalizer. However this was pretty much all paid advertising streams like adwords. 11 months later I average 300 visits per day with no paid advertising it's all down to SEO work. I have used a mixture of blog / social networking / and paid and free backlink directories / some link exchange with others / and lots of competition backlink analysis. Analysing the backlinks from competitors on search terms will give you a good idea of the work required for your chosen keywords.
I have started my blog 8 months back, when it was new i got 30-50 UV's per day and i started link building and suddenly after 2 months it was indexed in first page of google for my keyword and now i am getting around 350-500 UV's a day. it depends on keyword, backlinks and hard work.
i had a few sites which got consistent traffic in months, my recent ones are being a little more tricky even though their indexed pretty well.
Its only after 2 months that I started getting a decent traffic from google. Till then just keep doing bookmarking and proper SEO plans.
If I am not over 100 UV's a day within a week I get upset, no matter what the niche. Its all about generating traffic through linkbuildin, social bookmarking, press releases and articles, oh and forum work, to get people looking at your content - which must be COMPELLING, not crap.
