There is another recent thread on this, I think SMF and phpbb3 should be well recommended.

i guess it should be SMF ...... !
It is really very user friendly and easy to maintain. There are a few more free forum software available which are pretty good but not so user friendly.

User friendliness actually depends much on individuals, I think the best way to know is to install and try them out yourself see what you like. One's man meat may be another's poison.

I have tried them all. And I have difficulty in judging them cause I know they are all good.

In the end it is your choice, once you decide on one, migration to other forums may be a bit of work. So think carefully, google through, read through the forum and test it again and again and make your decision.

SMF? I am a member of 1 SMF forum which I rarely visit due to the awkward interface of Posting and viewing threads.

    MyBB for me:

    1. Free :D
    2. Tonnes of Features
3.Very user friendly for both the admin and the users.
    4. Very Secure
    5. Support directly from the developers themselves
    6. Friendly Community
    7. Awesome themes and modifications

    Cheers,

    BP
