What's The Most Lucrative Type Of Site?

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by condawg, Aug 5, 2008.

I'm looking to develop a site to sell it after a few months of decent traffic, but I'm stuck deciding what type of site to make.
What would be the best for this?
A proxy? URL shortener? Forums of some kind?
    Any help appreciated.

Find your self a trendsetter. Duplicate someone else's unique popular trendsetting site.

Proxy sites do pretty well for traffic. Truth is, any site can sell if you have a lucrative niche and you know how to generate traffic.

If you're looking to sell an online business or website, get into your potential cients mind. Here's what I would ask you if you tried to peddle me a site:

    1. What revenues has it earned?
    2. How much traffic is it bringing in?
    3. Is there unique content within it?
    4. Does it have a memberlist? How many? (eg forum members, or an associated newsletter with opt ins)

I would also try and focus on a high paying niche.

I think the best niche right now is video advertizing niche. Example: www.youtube.com
They sold it for 1.6 Billion US dollars to Google Inc in 2006.
Online video is a way to go.

Think about what has real value. Many of these things are just means to an end. The method does not matter. It used to be all that mattered was clicks and visits. Now, I think the size and demographic of the list is much more valuable than traffic. Not just sheer numbers. I may pay more for a site with 5,000 very specific subscribers (age, interest, region, etc) than a site with 500,000 people of all different backgrounds. This is why I love any site with a membership (even free), forums, and community.

Starting a paid Membership site would be a good option. Create a membership site , grab few subscribers and sell it for a huge profit after few months.

    Hope that helps,

Thanks for all the help, everyone =]

I hadn't even thought of starting a paid membership site.
What types of memberships are people actually willing to pay for?

People will pay for memberships for anything that gives them exclusive access to content, material, tools, goods, and services that are unique to their interests.

I would start by asking what you are interested in, what areas of expertise do you have. You would be suprised how many like minded people are out there. Once you identify the niche, then it is simply a question of need.

What do people like me who are interested in the same thing as me need? What would make that job, hobby, interest, art.....easier?

Give away a lot of information. Once they trust you to provide quality content, they will trust that the paid side of the site is worth the investment.

By the way. If you don't want to take the time to identify the need, you could artificially create the need in the mind of the consumer. The process is a lot harder and takes more time but many companies do it. How many things have you bought that you did not even think about needing until you saw it or read about it?

People pay for quality information. These membership sites are getting very popular now-a-days due to the constant income they bring in.

As an example see these two in IM niche

    InstantCashGenerators.com
    Earn1KADay.com

    Cheers,

Video or Arcade Site. Put some $100 worth of SEO and submission in it, gain the traffic , sell it. Then repeat.

So true, proxy sites do well if you focus on traffic and revenue, but if your ultimate goal sell the site, make sure you find a great name for it since this market is pretty saturated and, unless you can provide awesome stats, a name can make a difference in selling waiting time.

the best advice to choose which one is to go for a site that can have membership model aka recurring payments over one that merely provides just a one time payment.
