We've all submitted to directories; whether free or paid and from time to time we come up against and issue or a problem on a directory that can really annoy... so what directory trait annoys you the most? if you could change one thing in the industry, what would it be? Feel free to post any from the poll that i have missed out... In all fairness the thing that annoys me the most is the lack of contact information or a contact page... if theres an issue with your directory at least let people tell you about it!
Dammit, i knew id forgotten one - i even experienced that last week; made a paid submission thinking it was unlimited (as it wasn't stated), got to payment, realised it was yearly so gave up...
I have even had occasion to get to the payment screen and see MONTHLY! I don't bother to ever submit to any directory unless they clearly state what the term length is. Having to register is also a big one with me and most other folks, it just takes too long. The only recent register I remember being worthwhile was a directory that allowed you to add up to 100 deep links after listing, had to give that one a try.
I went with captcha but I agree about no way to contact contact or when its an problem with submit and when you go back they still haven't fixed it
I've had quite a few occasions where not only can i not read the captcha, but there are 5 letters/numbers and it will only let you input 4... how stupid is that!
Mine is not listed. The most annoying thing for me is when I try to contact the directory owner to find out about certain things about the directory before I submit. Things like where do you host, what kind of plan, what is your advertising plan, etc , etc.. things I want to know FROM the owner before I submit and I get no response. Seems crazy to me. Someone sends you a request for information about your service and you ignore them? Anyway, that's mine.. lol Lance
This poll should have been with "multiple choice" option Hard to choose which of them is "the most" annoying. Do you actually ask this to every owner you submit to ?? Pretty interesting if you do ... (impressive) .. And if you are not getting a reply back, you are actually getting your "answer"
That's my point... and yes, I do try to contact and it is a factor I use when decided if I will invest there. There are even a few proposals on here that I have been very interested in, but when I say, what is your promotion strategy, what are your traffic goals, etc etc.. they have an answer that isn't what I am looking for (not to say it isn't what others are looking for) and I may choose not to submit. Lance
category dump - shows little time is spent on the directory image validation - not needed anyway, pain in the a** No guidelines - not very professional free template is fine, as long as they use the sponsor links having to register - i just close when i keep getting errors - i think thats why i never submitted to ewebpages
I hate directories that call themselves "Authority Directories" because of the "SiteLinks" they managed to acquire for a term. That's my personal pet peeve.
I don't like it when a directory has the same category dump that everyone else is using. I know its less work for the webmaster, but whats the point if Google is just gonna mark it as duplicate content.
I have seen a directory that is promoted hard and heavy. Being a webmaster and directory owner I could not find a way to add my link. Thanks
I'm starting to get annoyed with directories not liking the work 'specialising' as part of the word is recognised as a spam related word.
