I have set $2 CPC for my web designing related keywords. I am charged on an average $1.5 to $1.8 per click.

I was paying up to $2 a click before I stopped using Adwords. At this level I was only breaking even so I decided to work on non-PCC improvements on my website.

I have set only $1. But i have heared people who set like $7 or $8 to get a good CTR for famous keywords. All it depends on keyword and the current bids by other advertisers...

Your max should depend on your business(what you get from that money you spend), on competition and on your QS .. If you have QS Ok or Great you should look into the other problems

    Good luck

Let it be $10 or even $50. Every price per click is OK if you earn from that.

Mine is $3.00 on competitive keywords. Once my QS and CTR improves ... I reduced the maximum bid to 2.35 ... still expensive. The conversion rate doesn't justify the cost for now .. But I'm trying another month and see.

The national average CPC is around $1 per click these days.

But the average CPC fluctuates on industry.

Some industries pay up to $20 per click, some only pay 0.20 per click

A better question to ask is what are you paying per click in industry X?

This way we can actually answer your question...

My CPC bids range from 0.10 to $20 per click depending on which client and what industry.

When I was young and stupid. I set my bid at $120 to see if THAT would get me the top spot on a highly competitive keyword. It didn't get me the top spot, but I got 2 clicks at that price before freaking out and pausing the keyword. That's my record, $240 for 2 clicks.

The kicker is they both converted and I actually made money. But I got very lucky in getting 2 conversions out of 2 clicks. The normal rate for that niche is 5 to 10%.

    :)

Highest I usually spend? .60-.70. Highest I've ever spent...... 3 bucks a click for home business keywords. Garbage conversion too.

On some product launches when it's really competitive I've bid upwards of $2.50 a click.
