My car stories page is #1 out of 94,400,000 for that term ... with number of inbounds per month for that keyphrase probably about a dozen.

So while fun to compare using number of results returned, it's not that accurate of a way to determine how competitive a keyword is.

#1 for "PHPSESSID" with 175 million results.

But don't confuse "competition" with the "number of results Google shows". Most of the time, you are only competing with 5 - 50 sites for the top spots. The rest of the 175 million pages just happen to have that word somewhere on their site or in a link pointing to their site.

Usually, if the first page of the serps is chock full of bold text, it's probably competitive. One word phrases are almost always very competitive.

Number one for a few business related terms. 1-2 million.

Right. Checking on allinanchor and allintitle are so important. Many web pages use general term, not always keyword promoting.

Being top 20 doesn't really mean you beat some millions

In reality you are only competing with those who SEO with your keywords. And those websites are not too many even with some seemingly competitive keywords.

i have some real good one's

    2 and 5 on a search of 34,000,000 and about 25 on a search of 225,000,000

i think some other good one's but i don't think anything top ten on any searches over 10,000,000 and these are only google searches not other engines
