Dear All, We are already running a web template site ( http://www.cogzideltemplates.com/ ) for a couple of years but it's not a main stream of business as we are into the service line. Currently we are planning to have a dedicated team for our web template site. Before investing anything we want to know about the future of web template industry and we do know that there are lot of big competitors like templatemonster, themeforest, joomlart etc. Taking the competitors into consideration, we are not going to target the popular frameworks like Wordpress, Joomla, Magento etc we are planning to target the second level frameworks like Dolphin, Social Engine, PHPMotion etc. Please let us know your feedback on this. Thanks for your time.
This seems like a smart move ... but I've never heard of Dolphin, Social Engine, PHPMotion. I'm trying to say that you might head a small market where sales are hard to do because there are a few users.
Specialization is a smart way to go. Another twist to potentially consider would be to specialize in specific sub-categories of templates - research to find the ones that generate perhaps the most money and design outstanding templates that surpass all the big sites.
If you looking to expand to the future, you cannot only target few script only because you need to grow as the web 3.0 will go . Everyone start using wordpress more and you should take part as well. You might think of mobile web template as well so that your business never left behind to stay long life in the market.
There is another possibility, create a particular type of template for all the platforms. For example, you could design only templates based on business websites.
