post the link to the site on a blog that you have already indexed and active for this purpose, and use pingomatic to ping everyone with it, and drop it in your signature in a post on a newish thread or two in here.

For the major SE's, submit sitemaps and point to them in your robots.txt file. Normally a craigslist(dot)org post will get the major SE's stopping by your site as well.

The very small SE's are better off to be submitted to with their add url option, IMO. Their crawl rate is just too slow. Eventually they will find you if you are actively building backlinks as the other posters have suggested.

 

A single link placed on a high ranked site will get GoogleBot crawling your site within a day or two and if internal linking on your site is built properly (using a sitemap or categories linked from the front page) the rest of the pages will get indexed right away.
The rest of the search engines will crawl and index your site the same way, but most of them are slower than Google.
I found that a single link from a PR5 site will get my brand new (few hour-old) sites indexed in Google within 24 hours!

 

I posted content on one of my blogs and it was indexed in a little over 24 hours...
Don't know if that works for everyone.

 

Digg gets my posts indexed the fastest.

 

my opinion: the fastest way to get indexed these days is through social websites

 

I would say submit to some directories, place a sig link in here, social bookmarking, and although not maybe an obvious one at first, make sure your site can get indexed properly, have a double check while your waiting and make sure you have left nothing in place that would stop the spiders.

 

Answer a yahoo answers question and for the source add the link to your site. I've tried it with 3 sites and they were all indexed within 2 days of posting the answer.

Try link exchanging, it works if you got links from pr4 and more websites.
