Hi, Suppose a domain is expiring today, what is the time the registry info is deleted and becomes free for registration. I am in india, is there any specific time for a domain to be available?
the one time i tried to buy an expiring domain i had to wait months before i could bid on it, and at the last minute found that the owner had renewed. contrary to logic, expired does not mean 'available to buy by the public'. some domain sellers offer an automatic service where they'll grab it for you as soon as it truly becomes available. around usd 100 from memory.
From the date of expiration as listed in a whois it is 75 days until the domain can be registered. The owner has a 30 day window with no penalty. A 30 day window with a $100 penalty and the extra 15 days comprise the release process. The exact time can not be predicted. There is a 4 hour window on the 75th day during which it will be released. Sucks doesn't it. Colbyt
I just read an article about this, but I don't remember where I saw it. After 75 days, if the registrar has abided by W3C standards, the domain will become available sometime within a 4 hour window, I think 11:00-3:00 PST. However, Many registrars do not abide by the standard, and may release the domain for registration as early as 4 days after expiration. The W3C does a very poor job of policing this. So, if a domain were to expire today, it could becaome available anytime between Saturday and late June. your best bet is to use a domain grabber service if you want to get it.
