I just created a site, underlyingbeauty.com Do I need a web host in order to make a site for it? Right now it's just an address with ads on it.

The relationship between a registry and registrars is similar to the relationship between the index of a book and the actual chapters of a book. When you look at the index of a book you can see the title of each of the chapters and where to find them, but if you want to actually read the contents of a chapter you have to go that section of the book and browse the pages. Registries typically act as an index for domain names - as a central repository to ensure that any given domain name may only ever be allocated once.
Registrars store and maintain the actual registration details for a domain name such as information about the owner of a domain name.
Domain name holders do not usually interact directly with the registry; instead they register domain names and maintain their contact details through a registrar who in turn updates the registry where necessary on behalf of the domain name owner.
Melbourne IT is a registrar for .com, .net, .org, .biz and .info domain names and has been accredited to do so by ICANN – the organisation responsible for deciding who may perform registrar functions for Generic Top Level Domains.

Web server: a process that enables the use of the HTTP protocol. For example Apache HTTPD:
    http://httpd.apache.org/

Web service: A service, usually invoked through the use of programming code, that uses HTTP as the underlying protocol, therefore it is necessary *at least* to have a web server.
