Does anyone know how fast Intel's new CORE i3 chip technology is in a laptop? How is it better than the old CORE2??

    Hi FootballFan,
Here is how it basically went. You had the Dual Core processor (which was not that good in my opinion) and that became the I3. The next step up with the Core 2 Duo which become the I5. And the 3rd step of processors was the Quad core which become the I7. If you want a laptop that will do more than the basics, I would go with the I5 or better. If you are just going to browse the web and write college papers and simpler tasks (non-CPU intensive stuff), than the I3 might be a good choice. Intel's I3 speeds range from 2.26-2.93 GHz. The I5 processors which are much faster also have Turbo-Boost technology where they can ramp up CPU speed when needed which the I3's do not have. Hope that helps.
