Given that a resume is a sales piece, what is the best way to go about writing a resume summary? Does anyone happen to have a good example or template they can share? Note: I'm specifically referring to a resume's "summary" section.
How long are you planning the summary to be? I mean there's no specific limit but have you set one? What precisely do you want to include in the summary? Some are just samples, some 'how-to's and others a mix. You'll have to sort them out. http://susanireland.com/job-lounge/examples-of-good-resume-summary-statements/ http://www.lorainccc.edu/NR/rdonlyr...mmaryStatementsforexperienceresumeGeneral.pdf http://jobsearch.about.com/od/includeinresume/a/how-to-write-a-resume-summary.htm http://biginterview.com/blog/2013/11/resume-summary-statement-examples.html http://www.clark.edu/student_services/employment/documents/ResumeSummaryStatement.pdf http://www.forbes.com/sites/jeromey...-resume-summary-section-that-gets-interviews/ http://career-advice.monster.com/re...ps/how-to-write-a-career-summary/article.aspx http://www.livecareer.com/resume-tips/resume-components/summary-statement#.U-2emqos05Y http://blueskyresumes.com/blog/how-to-write-a-resume-summary-that-grabs-attention/ http://www.wilkescc.edu/images/Cont...ent_Services/Profile_and_Summary_Examples.pdf http://mnliteracy.org/sites/default/files/sample-professional-summary-statements.pdf http://www.job-interview-site.com/resume-career-summary-examples-of-career-summary.html http://www.ccsj.edu/career/resume/ResumeIntroExamples6-24-11.pdf http://www.livecareer.com/resume-ti...summary-statement/resume-summary#.U-2fkqos05Y Hope this helps.
Your summary should speak to what you can do for the company you are applying -- The Ladders: Crafting The Professional Resume has some great tips and examples for this.
Is this the one you're talking about - http://cdn.theladders.net/static/pdfs/Crafting_The_Professionals_Resume.pdf ?
Wow.. That is very detail. Thanks for the share. I think there are some resume marketing companies that help job seekers to find resume. And they charge $100+ for each resume. It may be a good way to earn money from there too.
After several failed attempts of getting interviews for different positions and discussing this with some CV specialists around, they advised me to make a simple change on my resume (since everything else seemed to be OK): the summary. I have putted in practice some tips they gave me along with some others I found on this guide and I tried again, it seemed to work since I found 4 interviews and at the moment I’m working for one of those companies. It nos magic, but if something doesn't work, you need to try to spot the flaw and fix it. Good luck!!
I think the summary of resume should be in 3-4 sentences of a paragraph or 3 - 4 bullet points. It should be a snapshot of your skills, accomplishment and knowledge.
Tailor it to the job description. Use keywords and skills they mention. Start strong with an action verb and achievement. Quantify it with numbers. Mention 1-2 key skills. Keep it concise (3-5 sentences). Here's a shorter template: [Skillful] [Job title] with [experience] in [field]. Increased [metric] by [number%] with [skill]. Eager to use skills for [company's goal].
