Whats the best way to sell a killer link building ebook???

I'm in the process of write an absolute killer ebook on link building- the ebook will contain some key techniques on how to build PR1-PR7 backlinks, backlinks from relational niches as well as how to find .gov and .edu backlinks to build authority and trust to your website.

Ideally I'd like to distribute the ebook in an automated fashion and use paypal for payment processing.

Is there any way to create a paypal button (i know how to do that) so that when the person has purchased and paid for the ebook, an email is automatically sent to their email address containing the ebook they have just pushed (a bit like an auto responder).

I understand that i could probably include a tailored auto response that would contain a download link to the ebook, however i'd like to be a little more controlling, not have a live download link but rather just automatically send the ebook to the person who has made the purchase.

Is there any way of doing this? And if so, what is the easiest method???

Yes its possible but it come with a fee.
A 3rd party service is needed such as clickbank to do the function you want.

Alot of content management systems allow for digital downloads. I've used OsCommerce and that allowed for digital content downloading.

I would suggest clickbank as well. It sounds like your product is the sort of one that would do well there. Especially if you took advantage of their marketing programs.
