Whats the best way to promote your blog?

Hi I hope this is the correct section. I just started blogging. Im no good at it at all. But I wanted to know whats the best way to get traffic? I submitted my site to submit express,they send it to 40 top search engines. What else can I do?

 

There a ton of ways to build "channels" to your blog:

Posting comments on other blogs and forums which pertain to your blog's niche
Being active on social networking sites/services such as Twitter, Facebook, etc.
Posting to your blog on a regular basis
Create video posts
Submit your best posts to social bookmarking sites or ask your friends to (but doing this just brings waves of traffic- you want traffic which will become regular readers)
Write articles and submit them to various article directories
Posting to your blog on a regular basis (yes, I'm repeating myself but only because of how important this step is)

Write really informative articles on something you know really well, and share the link everywhere you possibly can (Without spamming).

List on some directories, post to social bookmarking and social networking sites and constantly update content.

 

There are many ways to get traffic to your blog like:

- Forum posting
- social networking
- social bookmarking
- traffic exchanges
- blog pinging
- back building
- PPC
- SEO

and so on...

Also sites like http://microworkers.com is a great way to get traffic as well. This could also potentially increase your Alexa and PR. Microworkers is also a good way to get valuable feedback for your blog/programs. Basically it's a platform where you can hire people at affordable rates to do small tasks for you like linkbuilding, site feedback & reviews, etc. I have used all of the above traffic strategies and more. Some may work better than others for you. It's best to experiment and try them all.

 

Blogging is all about linking. Add like-minded bloggers to your blogroll and ask them do the same (leave a few comments first so they’ll know who you are). Clicking through blogrolls is a great way to discover new ideas and new bloggers. Also link to and comment on posts from those blogs that interest you.

 

The best way is through the combination of all methods described above. Diversify!

 

i think submit to some famous bookmark site is very useful, and you can go to find some relevant blog site and post comments at here.

 

If you want the quickest way,you can use ads such as adwords or purchasing links to get more traffic.
If you don't plan to invest money on it, then you'd better pay more attention on the SEO.It needs time
to see the effect and get more traffic.Therefore,you should be patient to wait.Come on.

Is it much harder to run a blog vs a regular website?

 

It's hard to answer question like this! From the technical aspect it's very similar - for blog you can choose easy to set up Wordpress system, for regular website - Joomla.

The real question is about content & marketing. If you have "regular website" then you should make sure content is unique and search engine friendly, of course, it's the same with blog too, but the difference is - when dealing with regular website you should put more effort in marketing, while in blog you should more focus on publishing new content on a regular basis!

 

Try hosting a contest where you give out a small prize or have people join a mailing list so you can bring in some return customers
