Whats the best way to promote an webdirectory

I was just wondering whats the best way to promote an PR4 online directory? Submitting to other directories doesn't really seem like the most effective way of doing it. Some good advice will be much appreciated.

Well initially note it is going to take time and a number of key priorities
are:-
Get your site updated with regular unique content
This will bring in the spiders and then your content will get indexed
Your site takes too long to load and I was not able to view your site as the Snap interface would not load
Not possible to make any further comments as I could not get the site to load

As a directory owner myself I'd say: a unique and nice look plus MANY MANY links. I kinda smile when I see directories with 100 links that claim to be the best the biggest etc. When promoting try to avoid such words and just tell people it's frequently updated, free to submit to etc. Sincere stuff works best

And don't stop getting links into it. I am working on one of the directories like creazy and I want to make it the bigges in Martial Arts world for instance. Of course I don't say thins, but it's goona be

 

Put a free icon on your site.

Put the site in your sig, and try to post more in this and other webmaster forums

 

make the site 'useful' and 'free'.. sure easier to get high ranked in shorter time.

 

1. start with announcing in forums
2. send a press release
3. buy some links in alive,aviva plus other top directories.
4. buy some advertising space.

let me tell you that it would be really hard in the start and as time goes on you will get natural traffic.
