well i started this site with two of my friends and i was wandering what the best way would be to market a Christmas website. if anyone has any suggestions please help we have been doing some direct mailers and fryers also some door hangers any other ideas? site is GotTree.com
You would want to look at how big your target market area is. I think that going to malls and handing out flyers would be good. Have kids with sandwich boards on street corners, do a bulk mailing to an area that does not have a Christmas tree place close by. Who is your market? I think that older people that like trees instead of store bought fake trees would be a good demographic (although I may be wrong on that) And definitely young families with kids that would like a real tree. Also I think that in marketing you would want to pull the heart strings of tradition. Although the people are not cutting down their own tree, you can have them remember the warmth of family around a Christmas tree and the fun and laughter of the season. Maybe I can think of some more I will try to post again.
I manage 30+ Christmas sites and have worked this niche for over 15 years now. The trick to this is to be a year round presence and an authority in your niche-within-the-niche -- meaning this isn't going to be solved for you just this year or in the next few weeks. Seeing that you are targeting such a small geographic area and, from the looks of it, not offering shipping to the rest of the world I'd partner up with area retailers -- Hallmark stores, gift shops, nurseries, Christmas shops, independent hardware stores, etc -- and offer them a cut to provide the service to their customers. I know plenty of people who would pay extra to get a tree delivered. Also look into firms offering Christmas light service in your area as this would be a natural add-on for them. I'm seeing a lot more done with live Christmas trees online this year. Oh, one other thing -- real trees are getting lots of media attention this year because they are better for the environment than artificial trees. You might try to work that angle too. Good luck to you, Jeff
