Well your directory looks very new so our way would be to remove the ads,(maybe ad back in later when the site is getting lots of business) Start on a long term marketing and promotion program Post on forums,blogs etc Submit to paid directories continuously ie ongoing Update your site on a regular basis with new content to bring in the spiders And on top of all that 'you will need some luck' It's a very demanding market hope you do well
Hi Britishguy Great info there. I only have the ads there since I do get some traffic looking for gaming sites and I do get atleast a couple of clicks from them (though the amount is less). But I will take them away since I am planning on upgrading to Paid PHPLD and a brand new unique template for the site. Hope thats going to be a good start. tx for your very informative post. maybe start with a better domain name looks like you uploaded a directory to a domain which already had pagerank you have 1 category related to roms with 0 links in it your domain is totally unrelated try and customize the template a bit so when someone comes to your directory it tells the visitor that this is a gaming directory, at the moment it looks like 1000s of other directories the best way i got traffic to my old gaming directory was from search engines finding keywords in the listings and details pages from websites i added myself also try offering featured listings in exchange for a link back from worthwhile sites, but ofcourse your directory must be worthwhile also join vgamin.com forums and try create some partnerships

Hi, Very valuable piece of advice from Munt and Britishguy, much appreciated. I think now I have a small plan on how to proceed with the directory. Munt, I bought this domain a while ago from expired auctions which was previously a Rom site and has some traffic as well. I did not want to develop it into a rom site. But now I think I have some clear ideas of where I am going with this domain. tx to you guys advice.
To get good traffic--i think forums are the best options. Register to related forums and ve very active. Also if you have good budget you may buy signatures of active members on related forums. You can also list your directory with related sites that would bring you potential clients. Basically -since its a Niche directory--target the niche clients.
Can anyone suggest me if its a good idea to integrate a games directory with online games (arcade games etc) since I am getting template done for my site I would appreciate your valuable input.

Absolutely makes sense to me, although do you mean having games playable on your site or listing places with online games? Both are worthwhile additions. How about more content ie game reviews, game news, hardware reviews, hacks, tips, tricks etc etc. Maybe add a blog? Do it right and you might end up with some 'diggable' or 'stumble-able' content that can bring in massive traffic for nix. Those sites love lists too, ie top 20 places to play free games online or top 20 sites for ps3 mods etc. Search through digg and stumble and what has been popular in the past for your topic. Gaming and gaming hardware is a great topic with heaps of potential for income growth, so your in a great area (dont forget mobile gaming). all the best.
The best method is to sign-up in games related forum and get the traffic from it. Moreover try for games related directories and submit the site there.
rexona thats how i want my site to be, a resource of everything, and i want to base everything around directory. i want to go slow n steady at this stage as funds and time are very limited which is why i would like to start off with anintegration of directory and arcade games only. as i mentioned earlier this site receives about 1000 uniques from its previous back links to several gaming sites. now the question is is there any gaming package that can be put together with PHPLD? tx
Your on your way then...1k uniques is a great start. What do you mean by 'gaming package that can be put together with PHPLD?', are you looking for a template design? You really do need some content or even more simply if time is an issue just some text related to your topic and keep the listings and content related to your topic, if youve got those links and your getting traffic, youll be getting noticed by the SE's too so make sure your known for what you want to be known for, hope that makes sense and it's just my two cents worth!
Your main focus should be to find the age bracket that best compliments your Directory... Hence 10 - 35 heheheh old gamers are still out thier so... Myspace orientated sites that can push you traffic can i think,... be helpful to your directory.... thx malcolm
