Hi people, I have installed joomla and now next what? What are the best sources on web to learn using it? Apart from the offcial site, i dnt find it very helpful or may be couldnt use it properly
Best thing to do is take a look at http://www.joomlatutorials.com and then just get stuck in. Ask questions on the Joomla forum and don't hold your breath
Tried to learn by doing like I do with most gizmos and software. Way too hard with Joomla so I did the quick start guide which helped a lot and then visited the joomla.org forums.
I had the same problem when I first installed it today. When I installed it, it came with a lot of preinstalled content. It really does help when the content isn't there. None of the documentation guides are very helpful. Just try playing with sections and categories and the rest will seem simple after a while. Another good tip of advice; when you decide to install a plugin, you have to upload the zip. I was stupid enough to unzip them and place the files in the folders manually. Good luck figuring out how Joomla works
I've learned most of my Joomla knowledge from trial and error, although I did go to Joomla Vancouver 2008 this year! There is something to be said about trying something out instead of just reading about it. If you're trying new Joomla modules or components it never hurts to test them out first on a test website or a local server and play around with it without worrying so much about any real data. This way, you can see how the code works first-hand, and you can make whatever tweaks necessary before adding it to your live site. And always backup your Joomla database before you install anything new.
joomla is easy to install but using it needs a little tutorial, I myself can't use it very good... and sometimes it collapses, I faced 3 times then I had to install it again... but I will learn it this month because it has great features
