I was thinking about creating my own .pdf ebooks but couldn't figure out how to do it. What's the best software to use? I'm also curious as to how you create software type ebooks as well.

Is it free or does it cost money?

Just use a word processor and a PDF converter. I generally use Word and Adobe, but there are free options. I actually just highlighted some on my blog for the e-book writing series I'm doing this month:

None of the ebook software will work on a mac. I did an eTutorial and used ebookeditpro because it allowed me to do some things I wanted to do. But I'll now have to create a pdf version for the mac. I use Adobe Professional 8. I love the form designer that comes with it, too. The ebook software was advertised as having support but it I got zero, zip, nada, none. Maybe the developer is in intensive care?

Thanks guys for the help! I might go along with Adobe Acrobat but I think their price is a little steep. I need software that will help me create a .pdf ebook but will also allow me to add links and images to it. Hopefully I can make my money back.

If you're on a Mac, you can just write it in Word (Pages is cool too) and save to PDF. You can also PW protect changes and printing.

But something tells me that you're on an archaic machine that museums call "Windows." ;)

If I were on Windows, I'd just use Word and Acrobat. BTW, you can get a 30-day trial for the pro version, so when you have your book done, download and install it.

But you can't create .pdf ebooks with Wordpad can you? I also want the ebooks to have images and links. I think you can do that in Wordpad but if you can't convert that to .pdf it really can't help me much. They can easily edit my work if it's a wordpad file and claim it as their own.

No you can't take wordpad and make a pdf with links. But you can do links and photos with word to pdf. If you have the hyperlinks embedded then you have to add them in the pdf. In other words if you have http://mysite.com that will translate to pdf. But if you have my site then you have to do an invisible window overlay once it's converted to pdf.
