From that point when you call in religion I know it's the end of any rational discussion since the doctrines of the religion is guiding you for obvious reasons, and not the relationship with your creator by faith.
Please understand the religion first, what is it? Anything that brings you BACK to God - anything that re-unites you with God, that leads to Godunion - is religion. The original OLD meaning of the word religion comes from religare - and means in our modern words re-link, create a tie to God or re-unite with God ! Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and all other so called religions are the ways (roads) to achieve the above goals. Unfortunately most of us are sticking to the roads but not moving towards our goal! Everybody wants to gratify the way (religion) they have choosed, but least are bothered about the their goal! Note: I read it somewhere, I am not a philosopher
Ehhhh its hard to quantify this one, as there as so many variables and dimensions in regard to political belief. However, I would at least agree that those who support the current incarnation of the Republican party from Bush to Palin are probably on the lower side. There's a lot of appeal to the least common denominator: religion, nationalism, authoritarianism. The Triple Nine Society (requires an IQ score higher than 99.9% of the population) did a political survey and they sound too libertarian to be modern liberals... or maybe too liberal to be modern libertarians. Reminded me of this guy Sidis who is often considered to be one of the most intelligent to ever live (having tested ~250 IQ and graduating w/ honors from Harvard at age 16) . But there actually appears to be some group in the gray zone between the socialist and libertarian ideologies: a group of really, really smart people who are completely outside of the mainstream political discussion.

All religions have the same purpose to teach you what is good or bad, but they are so misunderstood at the times. I'm guessing that Buddhism could be the best religion.
