I would say any of the Linux family would fit the category.

Widows XP in my opinion is the best, you can run it on 64 megs of ram, but go for at leased 256 megs.

Linux takes less resources like ram but it sucks. Go XP.

I'm currently trying to buy xp pro before june 30..so that when i buy a macbook i can still use windows lol..
so far no one in australia sells it anymore and no overseas sellers accepts australian visa..i need to buy a copy for my bf as his laptop didnt come with system disks..and he stupidly added crap without antivirus installed *rolls eyes*....so according to his txt tonight he's downloading pirated software from a mate of his..omg..

An OS that uses the least RAM (eg linux) may not always be "the best", especially in terms of usability...

*off topic* what does it mean if my name is the brighter green and yours is the darker one??

It is depending on your CPU specs. if you have 1GB ram and above go for vista, great security and features.

yea i think lighter green is new users..judging by whose darker and lighter greens here..

xp is stopped june 30. 2008.
so if you need a fresh install or copy or plan to..get in before then.

my bf's laptop has "crapped" it..so he definitely needs a new os now. my laptop is now 3 years old and pretty slow, not to mention it needs a new battery and bettr ram.So becuase of MS decision to cease xp(I could tell last year when i went into dick smiths to buy it then all they had was vista-couldnt even order it through them :( )
I'll be upgrading my laptop to a macbook pro with bootcamp and run xp on it. I've used windows since win95 and what experiences i've had with apple was in early days..so i've never been impressed with it.
But i refuse to own vista. I would rather use a apple until perhaps the version after vista comes out.
vista is crap just like windows 2000. ..and if MS doesn't release another edition until 2010 or 2012..looks like they're gonna lose a customer (from me) at least until then.

I have no choice..i need to upgrade so i can put photoshop on here.

winxp is currently the best. until there's enough service pack released for vista.

If you're talking about the 'best', I must say that is Windows XP. But if you want an OS that is less resource hungry, just go for Linux.

Linux is the best OS that consumes optimum resources but if you want to go for a normal OS that you can use in everyday life, I would recommend Windows XP.
