    i would use osCommerce depending on how many features you need/want you can add mods/contribs to heavily customize it

    You Should Really look into Zen Cart, just my 2c but it owns over oscommerce, the other solution you can also try is Joomla + VirtueMart, very easy and lets you have a dynamic website too with almost 2000 feutures for Joomla

    I use ezypal on Gamepacks.org - its not free but its a pretty good script; particularly for digital download products.

    There are pros and cons to all scripts. You need to decide which features are important to you, then see which CMS best fits your needs. I would start by quickly drawing up a plan of the site and how you would like it to work. For a simple pet supply store most will suit your needs, but you can approach it from a different way - Are you going to design a custom theme, or would you like something out of the box? If you want a specific look, but don't want to spend a lot of money on a designer, then perhaps you could look at the themes that are available to see if something suits your needs.

    The choice of script fully depends on your business needs. As for me, the key points come to the following:

    • kind of ecommerce solution: whether you want a downloadable product to be installed on your server or a SaaS solution hosted by independent companies;

    • number of vendors: is it only you who will be selling your goods or multiple vendors will be able to manage their products in an online “mall”;

    • stuff by default: how many features are already included into the software by default which will let you reduce your expenses on buying them separately as add-ons;

    • installation: who will install your software: you or the specialists from the support team of the software you chose;

    • customization: to what extent do you want to be able to make modifications in your online store yourself and, more importantly, to what extent it is possible in this or that software. Also, what kind of customization services can the developers offer.
    Here is a detailed chart that might help you to familiarize yourself with popular shopping carts:
