We all know SEO is a long process but occasionally we spot a way to optimise our sites a bit by altering a <h1> tag or submitting to a new directory. Some of these things are simple and quick but yield really good results. So, what is the most productive hours SEO work you have ever done? Mine is creating a blog with some content I had lying around, although not very good its a valuable backlink.
I accumulated a bunch of e-mails of some excess linking pages to my homepage and mass mailed them a request to change the links over to a big deep link. It actually took about two hours. - Just made sure that none of the linking pages were over a PR 3, and shazaam, I had another competetive term ranking in less than a month.
Building a viral product and placing it on my sites. Generated tons of interest, heaps of quality links that just keep growing and growing. And even more back end sales.
I got the Google-friendly mod for phpBB installed on 3 of my sites in about 1 hour. All it does is remove the SID= search string from the end of URLs. If I understand what I'm seeing (very preliminary), it moved 2 of the sites from 900 pages indexed to about 10,000+ pages indexed, each. Unfortunately, there's also the Big Daddy update going on, so it's hard to correlate. -T

Sometimes the smallest things are the best things! There was a page last week, that had a poor title tag, and I changed it, and yesterday it was finally crawled, and now my keyword is #1 out of 2,280,000 on Google! It has already brought a guest, and hopefully it will bring much more...it gets searched for about 200 times a month!
The most time I spent was a few nights ago when I decided to spend my entire evening submitting my various sites to directories. Boring at the time, but I'm sure I'll be glad I did went through all that hassle when the next PR update comes along.
