This is a one of the most controversial topic Usually more than 90% of the people argue for vB or phpBB. This is the first time I'm seeing this much opinions. I've never worked with a forum. In my opinion from the user's side of view, I like vB much better than phpBB. The best thing I like abt vB is its drop down menu. It provides most of commonly used tasks within the thread itself. Also, the ability to subscribe to a thread. phpBB3 has a similar functionality. Also I've heard at many forums that vB is much better as far as SEO is concerned too. And most important is the fact that phpBB has introduced too many changes in version 3, that most of the mods available for phpBB2 won't be working anymore.
I'm absolutely pro phpBB, as it is free (while vB costs loads of money), however I also realize that vBulletin is much better - unless the fact it costs that much. Well, it is indeed a fact that phpBB3 won't have the mods anymore available, but unless that the MOD programmers are already busy -including me- to optimize their MODs for phpBB3. The very big advantage of phpBB is that they have so many modifications, not ONE other forum could be compared to that. The danger of phpBB3 was that those MODs would get lost. They indeed will get lost, however people are already busy making their MODs phpBB3-compliant ...
