What's the best currency to use for prizes for contests (logo etc)?

In the contest forum for logos, headers, etc, most contests use USD. Assuming that the prize money was the same value when converted and that the payment method is PayPal, does the currency make a difference to people submitting entries? If so, which currency is best to use for prize money out of USD, GBP, EUR, or is there another one?

Thanks for the answer, I will probably use PayPal as the initial method of transfer because that is the one I have used the most.

However what is the best currency (not payment method) to offer for contests? For example:
    • US Dollar
    • GB Pounds Sterling
    • Euro
    • Another currency

    Thanks,

USD for sure, except if your audience of contestants is more likely to be from UK, then use their own currency.

Many thanks for your reply. Although I'm based in the UK and use GBP, I'll use USD for contests as it'd probably attract a more global audience.

Yes, remember the milliondollarhomepage from Alex from UK? He was smart enough to make it $1 per pixel and not 1€ or 1GBP :)

Very true! In fact if you have a look at the FAQs of the milliondollarhomepage, especially FAQ #10 you'll see:

I know that the above was written a few years ago now, but it probably is still true.

From your signature, I see that you are based in India.

As you have mentioned Euro before US Dollars, would I be right in thinking that you prefer Euro?
Would thus be true for most people in India that they would prefer Euro to US Dollars?

If it's the same amount, €30 or $30 yes I think they prefer euro. :)

But anyway euro is going so that dollar can stay the world standard, if you notice the short term history, euro began to go down a little while after china and russia talked about exchanging energy with euro instead of dollars, that couldn't happen, the US wouldn't let it happen :)
