Hey John, if you can find a Fujitsu-Siemens base-unit to the specification you need within your £500 budget (which I think you might do?), it's worth thinking about. They have good quality-control and after-sales service, and I've always been impressed with them.

(For myself, I would venture to suggest that it's worth paying a little extra to have XP installed on it and avoid Vista. I believe many people in dedicated computer forums would and do also give the same advice on this point!).

    Good luck. :)

Go for an Intel Core i7 CPU. It's Quad Core and it's the most advanced and powerful at the moment.

As for the HDDs choose WD, because Seagate has great problems with it's current 7200.11 Line of HDDs and I don't know if the 7200.12 series is available in the shops.

Hey John. I recently bought an advent desktop, 500GB HD, 4GB Ram, Quod Core, AMD Phenom, 19inch LCD screen and windows vista preimum it was around £480 from PC world. I'd recommend it had no problems as of yet.

Most computers are built from hardware components made by the same company. We are just buying the brand. The only thing that makes the difference is the OS. That's it.

    hey John,
i prefer you to take any version of intel, well latest is extraordinarily speedy and clear. Try with windows XP on it as vista is sensitive and is not ment for daily usage.
