    If you're from the US I recommend US Bank. I've never had any problems with them.

    Citibank is the most reliable of them all and I think it's all over the world.

    HSBC just opened here in Peru, so I haven't tested them yet. Are they good?

    I like my bank, SEFCU, but you need to have a tie to a federal/state employee to get in.

    What are you looking for? High interest savings? Free checking? I like etrade for savings @ 4.4% apy. You can find free checking just about anywhere. Look at www.bankrate.com for some reference.

    I would strongly advise against Bank of America. They are trouble.

    get a student checking account with WAMU, unless you got the big bucks and are looking for a competetive money market account or high yield savings

    To be totally honest that is like asking how long a piece of string is. What do you want the bank account for, savings? overdraft facility? credit? discounts?

    Then you have to take into account;

    • Interest figures
    • Balance transfers
    • Your monthly income
    • Size of credit/overdraft
    • If your a student?
    • etc...etc...etc...

    I would do what I did and just go into the top banks and sit down with one of their advisors, discuss what you need/want, how much you earn, and all that crap. Once you have been to them all, get out your calculator and find which one is the best for you.

    Good luck, and congratulations on turning 18.

    Bank of America is too big, find yourself a mid-sized bank.
