I re-launched site in my sig last January and on a new server, because it needed linux hosting (WordPress)....since I was previously on a Windows server and have been running with AdSense about 10 years now, I am wondering about this new ad layout. Should I drop the square ad on left of page and leave the top banner? And then put a new ad (possibly a smaller banner) just beneath the daily image? This is a 10,000 page site now and is earning maybe a dollar a day when before (on the Windows server), I was getting about 4 to 5 dollars a day with just 150 pages in the site.
I actually like that ad on the left. I usually recommend placing ads in the main body of a website, but somehow that ad was the first thing that I saw when checked out your website. My question though is why does your 728x90 ad at the top not have the same border and yellow background? I just think it would've been more noticeable if it did.
Appreciate your insights. I left the top 728X90 as is, because I wanted to direct the reader's eye to that top menu bar. I could experiment and to a yellow background and similar color border for testing though. My main body of site 624 pixels wide and was considering stripping out all of that descriptive text and replacing with anchor text links to inside pages of site + add some sort of banner at top of that area of page. I'm writing copy and for that spot and experimenting a bit since I only re-launched back in January - much appreciated! (I liked your screenshot!)
If I were in your place, I would do the following 1.Replace 728*90 with 728*15 2.Add an ads before content(after the image) and after content, try this and surely it will increase your CTR. Since, you are working on wordpress use heatmap plugin to track the exact clicks on the site and place/modify ads accordingly.(You can try placing 600*60/600*90 custom ad sizes also)
Theonkar: See this page. Above and below the new 468X70's I would add, I was already considering re-editing that descriptive text by putting in a set of anchor text to inner pages (web silo). I'm not familiar with custom ad sizing as I have never studied it. That long set of descriptive text (where certain clip images appear) is something I have been planning to re-edit. No one cares to read long boring descriptions or information on a landing page from what I have studied.
@dinrock., The placement seems to be fine. Also, install heat-map tool and analyze your site every week and make modify ads accordingly. Also, try 300*600 in sidebar All the best and happy earnings
Theonkar....I have been using Adsense about 10 years. After I re-launched my site last January with Wordpress, that's when I noticed the big drop in traffic (changed to a new server on Linux with a different web host) and have been working on trying to regain traffic....not easy. And then restructuring the ad layout is yet another mind-boggler. As for the heat map tool, I have not installed any plugin yet. I have only 2 or 3 active plugins on my site because when I first began studying wp and building with the new editor, I tried to avoid reliance on too many plugins to do the hard stuff.....this way I learned moore indepth or developed a better understanding for the inner-workings of wp. Thanks for your input also........
