Whats the benfit of accepting free links?

As said in title what do a directory or a directory owner gains from giving away free links?

 

Lots more links for their directory.

 

so you can build a directory with each category "full" with links
whats the use for a directory with no links in it?

 

Then what?

 

I want a directory not a link farm!

 

Then you can say - Look at how full and good this directory is. Now you have to pay for it.

 

It can bring you some visitors I think also after while you may be able to sale sponsor links.

that is why you dont approve every site
you go to the site and check if its suitable to be listed in your directory
even with featured links or paid inclusions you should still approve/dissaprove them by checking the quality of the site and refund them

 

Unless you monetize your directory, you don't get any substantial benefit IMO.

 

If you have a paid section or paid feature link, you will need that to get more listing.

no one is going to paid for inclusion at a directory with no much listing, just my 2c
