Pretty broad generalization, Gypsy. No, we "all" are not talking about ToolBar PageRank. Many of us understand the distinction quite clearly. I don't even have ToolBar PR on my browser.
Jeez man.. if ya ain't heard a rant before... welcome to it.. obviously if ya ain't included in that group - ignore it. That's not really the point here.... All that writing and that's all you came in to say? Man. yer killing me here.... take a deep breath dOOd... ADDED; I didn't notice U making the destinction between PR and TBPR - so maybe I was talking to you... I believe U even called it watching 'Live PR' - what's that? Tell me what your LIVE PR is.. because it sure ain't between 0-10 Actually, re-reading the thread - only my fellow ranter OS even mentions TBPR - and that's why I am saying the destinctions need to be clearer - that's what I tried to do.. read all of those threads.. I have done this ad naseu so ya know I ain't NUTz - I talked to Danny Sullivan, Jill Whalens, Ol Matt and more writing that TBPR article... I did my homework
Couldn't agree more I've seen a PR drop, but traffic improve on one of my sites as well. My take is that PR is a finite resource, there is a set amount of it and as more sites are built and improve in quality (or not!) it'll be spread more thinly. The bare PR ranking of a site doesn't matter as much as the PR ranking of that site relative to that of other competing sites.
PR is just one factor in SE ranking, however it goes hand in hand with quality and quantity of backlinks. Ignoring PR is not wise but neither is giving it too much focus. I believe a strong website has all factors entwined and balanced which will give the site stability in the rankings. Having said that, there are many directories including Google directory that rank purely on PR in any given catagory in which case PR is very important, but these directories generally don't deliver much traffic.. PR is also a factor in link selling and selling directory listings. One should determine one's goals with their site and give PR the appropriate focus to meet their needs.
i think you should read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank article to learn more about the page rank
You see... folks are not talking about PR - because we cannot see REAL PR - merely the TBPR variety which is NOT the same as PR.. it is a simple numerical evaluation In truth my PR would be 123.345456 or whatever. There are many, many steps in between what we know as a PR3 and a PR4 in Toolbar terms.... they merely created a simple version for public consumption... WE DO NOT KNOW OUR ACTUAL PAGERANK.. what you see in the TB or any other online checker is NOT true PageRank.... then add in infrequent updates and you start to see the problem. anyways... enough TBPR ranting for today...
ya i (and any seo'er)realize we cant see our ACTUALL PR .. hence the 4+ month change interviews. However PR is a measurable thing regarding backlinks. so i suppose i just have said. "building PR" and not just the broad "pr" term.
