    In my opinion, good start in your own business is selling on eBay, of course, if you want to sell products. Chose the products you are familiar best with. Generally, it's better to start business in subject you are good at. After chosing what you want to do, after chosing products or services you will sell, you must analize the competitors and you may start to advertise your products or services using different ways either by your website or on facebook or another social websites.

    Realize what risk you are village to take. consider time and money investment.
    After that decide what exactly you want out of your business.
    Do you want to just simply employ yourself? Do you want to do some work and then sell the business one day for a big pay day? there are many things you could want out of a business.
    If you decide to go with a online business, i would take this steps:
    1. make a list of ways you can make money online (drop shipping, affiliate marketing, product creation, and many many more), and compare the things in that list to your personal needs(the ones i described). Choose something.
    2. search for similar sites and look how they do it. for example, if you want to do some work and then after, say 6 months, flip your webpage go to a page like flippa.com and look for sites that monetize themselves the same way you would want (use 1. step). you can also use that site even if you want to just employ yourself. say you need 2k$/month, go to flippa and look for sites that make 2k/month.
    3. copy the idea and execute it better, or work harder, or work smarter, or be more passionate. The more of those things you do, the more successful you will be.

    I agree absolutely...idea generation is the most important and difficult part of the business.It has to be well thought out.Else all endeavors following the wrong track would be futile eventually.It needs systematic planning and study and knowledge of existing techniques too.

    Besides what I said before, you should try to run your business, mainly in field what you are good at. For sure, you will make a lot of mistakes at the beginning but you must learn from them, you can not avoid them. It is natural process. If you don't try you will never know how you can do. Only you need to be persistent and never give up. Don't scare small obstacles on your way.

    The world is full of people with great ideas who are starving. Finding the right idea for yourself that you can turn into a profitable business and the life style that you desire can be a little more tricky though. Here are a few things you might want to consider as far as starting your business.

    1) Start with something you enjoy or you will just be creating another job! This should ideally be something that you are already good at.
    2) Take a look at the products and services that are already availble and ask yourself how you can make them better.
    3) Ask yourself how you can best serve your customers and make their lives easier or better for having invested in your products or services. In short ask them what they want.
    4) You need a plan! This should cover who's in your target market. What products and/or services that you will offer at what price. A marketing plan that details what media channels you will use to reach your target market with your offer. what will you offer on the front and back end? How will you structure your sales funnel? Etc.
    5) Take Consistent Massive Action! This is where most people drop the ball. Posting a single sales video to youtube or mentioning your website once or twice a month on twitter is not going to cut it. Be consistent every day!
    6) Be persistent! Never give up! Rome was not built in a day! Re-read #5!
    7) Test and Adjust! Keep track of your numbers. Test your systems and your marketing efforts! How many clicks are you getting. How many calls are you getting from your ad in that trade magazine? Test your headlines and copy. Make changes and re-test!
    8) Seek the help of a mentor or coach! Nothing will cut your learning curve faster than having a successful coach leading the way!
    9) Make decisive decisions! Don't over-analyze things! Make decision and then go for it! If it doesn't work try something else or move on to the next one! Fail forward fast.
    10) Rinse and repeat!

    Have FUN! That is the whole purpose of working for yourself right? You don't have to answer to someone like a nagging boss or punch a time card. You can create the life style that you've always dreamed of!
