Sorry for the nub question. I read about it all the time , people buying links on high PR websites. What exactly does "buying links" mean? Is it basically paying for the website owner to put a link to your website, say, in the "cool sites" section? And what's so effective about it? Should I buy some links? Somebody please enlighten me. Thanks
You have basically answered your own question. You buy a link and the webmaster displays that link some where on the page. The benefits.. you will gain traffic/exposure and possible increase your PR ranking.

People will charge money for links based on how popular there site is, based on PageRank. The more popular their site is, the more beneficial a backlink to your site will be. This is because Google (and other Search Engines) regard backlinks from popular sites highly compared to Lower PageRanked sites. The higher the Pagerank of a site, the more Pagerank that site will pass down to sites it is linked to.
the way google works is the principal reason for generating good backlinks, if you are buying them then it is unlikely that you will see much traffic travelling along the link, but enough good links could increase your 'organic' traffic from google and other search engines.
Just to give you an idea...I bought a PR5 sitewide link to a 2500 page indexed website. Within 5 days, I ranked #4 search result for my 3 word target/anchored text. That's out of 10,000,000 results.
yeah you may buy, there is not harm in buying links, If Big G caught the link as link seller there after you won't having any juice from paid links.
Yep! Links help in improving rankings. Search engines use backlinks to find, index website. A site with good content and quality backlinks ranks high. It's your decision.....but links from quality, related sites do help in rankings
Yeah its very effective coz it will help your site ranked high in PR high PR=high website value You should as much link as possible but don't get caught by google else your site will be sandboxed
For me, buying links is just waste of money... ONE or TWO backlinks from high pagerank sites can't make much a difference!
it helps with your back links and google likes back links... but also you can just receive quality clicked traffic which is nice too
easydolla, focus on related sites only. Whatever your niche is, say it's iphones.... you would buy from the following sites: cellular phone, iphone, telephone, anything related to the phone and cell phone industry.
Buying links maybe works but it is not a long term solution. You should try to put back links on high PR sites by the "natural way". And you should also link to those sites. If you buy link how sure you are it will not last for just one month?
