No bro u r absolutely right, video promotion in youtube, metacafe and other videos site and banner exchange are really likes by Search engines especially Google.
yeh that's true but now a days people also get smarter enough they also read and spent lot of time on internet and many peoples started doing SEO of their site. SEO is getting more and more popular than earlier. But still we don't have to give up, just work hard and smart.

SEO is slowly going to change to WEB 2.0 and social media. Seo is and will always be about on site optimization and links building, no doubt on that, the difference is how are those things done. Over time spiders are becoming more "intelligent" so the old one main keyword optimization is changing and the use of synonyms if becoming more and more important. Directories and link exchanges might still do the trick but soon links from social media websites and in content links will take over. SEO and algos keep on evolving and you can keep on doing the same thing you did 5 years ago forever.
