I've read a couple of books about SEO. In the 1st one it suggests that when link building the most important thing is the page rank of the page your link is on. The 2nd book however makes it clear that the most important thing about the page your link is on is relevance. I have an irish gift site which I'm trying to get links for. I've posted in forums related to Ireland with my link in the sig. Obviously these links are surrounded by the word Irish and the anchor text is "Irish gifts". Also these links come from a www.ULR.ie (Ireland extension). Are these links more important for ranking than getting a link on a not so relevant page which has high page rank? thanks
well you must take both into account really, posting on forums won't get you much 'link juice' But it gets your sites indexed quickly. Maybe you should post on some Irish forums as well since they are more relevant and you may get some organic traffic from thos links in your sig also....
consider more from text and content relevance to your topic or theme. Always try to get your site know in local market around you as that will be best to make a huge impact in long run
