What is it called when you buy a handful of domain and put the exact same site/content up on each.....there is another term for it besides duplicate content. Why is this bad in the eyes of Google?
Honestly the best word for it just "dumb" lol. The reason it's bad in Google's eyes is Google is trying to index all of the content on the web, preferable one copy of each piece of unique content. If you own a site with 1,000 pages and then copy it to 100 domains because you thought having some keyword phrase in the domain name was going to help you rank, now there are 100 copies of all 1,000 pages in their index all with the EXACT same content as 99 other sites. What a freaking waste of their index space, server space, CPU processing, etc. Now, if this were to work imagine every blackhat SEO and spammer on the web throwing up hundreds or thousands of copies of billions of potential web sites by simply buying a new domain and pointing it to an existing web written with all relative links? Can you imagine how much this would cost Google in storage and processing power? Can you imagine how fast every available domain name on the net would be gobbled up? If you think it's hard to find a .com domain now... But what you should be asking is, "Why shouldn't I do it?" I would answer with, "Why should you do it?" What's the use? Do you REALLY want to have to do link building for 100 sites when the content is EXACTLY the same. To promote a single page across 100 identical sites you'd have to basically do 100 times the work to have them all rank as well as doing 1/100th the work for a single site. Why not do 100 times the work for a single page on a single site? You'll get back a LOT more in return in the long run. Duplicate content is just as bad for you as it is for Google. It only means you're going to be doing more work to get the same results.
Well for instance there is an auto dealer we build websites for and he has the same exact content on a few domains. So I must persuade them not to do this.
Having duplicate product descriptions, etc. is not going to completely kill them. Getting sites with duplicate content to rank well can be done it just means lots of link building and duplication of efforts. Google will likely index all of their sites even though they are duplicate. If for some reason they perform a manual review on them, I'm sure Google would leave them all in their index since they are each legitimate businesses. I'm sure Google deals with this often in LOTS of verticles. It's not the ideal situation, but some times things just are what they are.
All duplicate contents will not be indexed and will not get credits from google. Maybe, at first when it crawled it get indexed, but once they understand that it is duplicate content, the first crawled site will get the benefit as google will only indexed site that they recognized first with this content. All the other contents from different domain or IPs will be ignored.
if those websites are all exact clones of the original site, tell him he can be sure that only one of them will get the traffic, it is absolutely useless to launch exact replicas, the only reason to have multiple sites is targeting different keywords, and having different content, each site should be unique, (not 100% original, but it has to be rewritten at least), if he plans to launch many sites at once, then my advice is targeting different keywords with each site, otherwise it's a waste of time.
if will use duplicate contents than your site penalized by Google, at least 80% contents should be unique for other site.
I really don't think this is true. Duplicated content does show up in search results, and some pieces do fairly well, regardless of when they were indexed.
Yeah a fellow on another site pointed out that the top 2 SERP results for buy video games are indeed the exact same site...WTF is up with that!
