    Ping means you have to inform to google or yahoo that you have update your blog or any content so that google will indexed your blog or content. Do ping after writing content so that google knows that you have written that content first otherwise some else will stole your content and inform to google.

    I think wordpress has an automatic pinging feature. It pings whenever you click the button update or save.
