does it really matter? SERPS are what you should focus on. forget PR.

If you're willing to flip the site, then it does matter. Otherwise, it really doesn't.

I think Google wants us to concentrate on SEO, and building backlinks, so the PR will naturally come

I'm still not sure I understand these minor "updates". Not much seems to actually get updated. A couple of people report changes, and lots more people report no change (like me).

I have a (permanently) PR1 blog that I haven't updated since last March. If I tried to sell links from that blog, would that be worth anything at all? Probably not, but just thought I'd ask. I just wish it had been "frozen" at a higher toolbar PR.

    lolz...lucky seller!

I almost always have found my decent PR sites fallen to PR0 with these whatever major or minor updates they are. However, it should be my lucky day today that I found only of my PR sites down to zero while as mentioned above, another Pr0 got Pr2. Truth be told, Google is trying its best to screw the webmaters relying on link sales. Have fun webmasters! :)

A minor update covers most newly registered domains and some newly produced web pages.

A major update covers all root pages of all domains, whether new or long established.

The general view is to call anything that doesn't cover the root pages of all long established domains a "minor" update.

Google does three major updates every year, and sometimes a fourth. If there are only three, the omitted major update usually is the one from the fall. Which is to say, this year is not as freakish unusual as everyone keeps acting like it is.

The one major update Google always hits in the New Years update, which usually occurs between Dec 31 and Jan 2. There's no need for a big freakout unless we're sitting here at the end of the first week of January and there still hasn't been a major update.
