The Americans do not value football as highly as us here in Europe - there are not too many breaks in play for commercial breaks!

    lol thrue!
the swedish tv4 recently tested to do an Interview with the goal scorers right after they scored
so they stopped the game and they had to run out to the sideline and talk for a min or two :D
this was in the cup not in the league tho!

Yeah, "Soccer" is nowhere near regarded as highly as in Europe.
I've never really like David Beckham though, so it's no real loss :D

It will never go big in the US. The only players they get are the old and retiring ones who are nearly past there best. No young players, of any class want to go play out in the US. If this happened and the younger star players moved then it would become bigger in my opinion. But while the old and 'past it' type players are the only ones moving it won't get any better.

They could run a commercial every time someone falls down and holds his shin and silently cries while listening for a whistle. :D

Soccer could adopt a model like hockey and have stoppages at approximate 6 minute intervals (take a commercial timeouts on out of bounds or when a goalkeeper gains possession). The revenue model could change to entertaining commercials rathern than having casino, liquor, beer or my personal favorite Mexican bread adverts on the uniform.

You would have to admit that would be an improvement and it wouldn't slow the action down too much.
