What's everyone think of MLM?

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by Muisings Freelance Contne, Jul 4, 2012.

I'm trying to diversify and get into different sources of residual income than blogging and stuff.

I joined the Vitel Wireless Buisiness program. I'm in my first month. Well, first week actually. Does anyone know anything about this? My friend who brought me in on it has already referred 6 people so she has a free cell phone service and free business. When you refer more you get cable and energy bills paid, as well as car payment up to $750.

Again, I'm looking for experienced MLM'ers to help out and give me an opinion of the business. If you want to join by all means...but this isn't a pitch. Evidently, because the only link to the program is in my signature.

Looking forward to hearing what you all think!

    Thanks

    Ken

A pyramid based marketing scheme like Amway or Quixtar where individual agents recruit other agents and receive commission from both their own sales and the sales of the agents they recruited.

almost the entire industry has been hijacked by greed. If you can not understand the pay plan in 2 minutes that is a warning sign.

yea, you have to look out for those pyramid schemes that make big promises but never hold true to them. but what you have to do it look at those who are doing it and see if they are genuinely reaping a profit.

Well, I'm in a MLM/Affiliate company that actually pays 100% commissions and at four different levels and two of which are residual. $25 and $100 levels you get every month. Others are lump sum payments of $500 and $1000.

MLMs are a great way for residual however they take a quite a bit of work.

I would say MLM can work, it depends of the Brand you represent and the product you are pushing. A lot of people are wary of MLM businesses and consider them a scam. I know of several people who have joined MLM's as agents and now don't have to lift a finger ever again, unless of course the MLM company collapses. If there is a demand for the product, and your area is not saturated to death by other agents, then i can't see why it won't work.

    Best of luck to you.

I went to a MLM meeting once it wasn't for me. It was for ACN, I had a few friends that were doing it. The only bad part about it was that they would work so hard to recruit their underlings. But if their underlings ever surpassed or gained the same rank as them then they would lose all the residual income that came from that underling and that underling's underlings.

MLM is a stupid waste of time. If you put the same time and effort into something real you would be much better served.

Is it possible to make some money - yes.
It is a reliable and smart way to try and make money - no.

Pyramid marketing and a waste of time. The effort could be spent and used effectively on many different things instead.

If you joined an MLM how is that going to help you diversify? Wouldn't it be better to focus your time on one thing? If you are already getting residue income from blogging shouldn't you focus your efforts on dominating your niche instead of looking at the next shiney thing? MLMs are time consuming and your upline will be stealing your time (and "clients") because his upline is pushing him too. That's how they work.

I've been had by a few MLMs in the past myself before and the way they got me was through my friends. My friends insisted that I come by and visit their little seminar for a "business opportuniy". More like an opportunity to lose a few hundred bucks. Apparently to get in on the game to become rich in due time all I had to do was hand over money as soon as possible. Like in the first few hours. At the time my friends and new upline guranteed that I'd make it back over time. Like it was some kind of investment and that I should be thankful they found me first or something like that.

Let me tell you something, the only kind of investment that will make you residue income is your own thing. Something that you truly own and control. Your own business will make you money, not some MLM scam. The friend you spoke of only has a free cell phone service and free business that she doesn't even own. Can she really say she owns it or the product that she is trying to sell? That's like signing up for a free blogspot and saying you own your own site.

A great example of an MLM would be Amway. I discovered them in 2006. That year they called themselves Quixtar and I last heard from them in 2008. God knows what they call themselves now.

I bet you the guy you signed up under is going to be riding you hard to convert your closest friends, family, and co-workers to their little sham. He is going to hear about your internet marketing thing and shut you down. He will make all kinds of excuses to why IM wouldn't work and stuff.

My advice to you is that you should hang out more on DigitalPoint with like minded people rather than the MLM people who have a different mindset.

    Digital Point = Good!

    MLM = Very Bad :(

Mlm in theory is fantastic and there are some people who have done very well from it. However it is also responsible for people losing friendships or avoiding you as they feel you are going to hard sell them all the time.IT is never as easy as it is made out to be and does take a lot of work.I guess i would say if you use the product anyways and not just because of the business then feel free to promote it especially as you are trying to diversify. However the majority of people online fail by lack of focus so it may be that it is too early for you to diversify

    Regards

I think that MLM is not for everyone but can reap some nice benefits if you are a decent sales person. I do not do MLM right now, but have tried it in the past. I've seen great programs and not so great programs. So I suggest if you want to try it make sure you do your research first. Yes, there are scams out there but all MLM's are not scams. The concept of "multi-level marketing" is in LOTS of industries (i.e. real estate and insurance where the regional gets paid off of the managers, who get paid off of the sales resp, etc) and there isn't anything wrong with making a residual income on other people's efforts so long as its ethical....IMHO. Good Luck either way!

MLM's a tough bite. It is certainly difficult to promote, if you can't get referrals, you'll get nowhere. I use one program that has some bits of MLM to it, but works great without referring people and without doing any kind of promotion. I get earnings every day like clockwork without doing anything. Every other kind of MLM I found never worked for me and I find it not worth the hassle.
