$12 is a fair price for a limit order. A lot of the online houses offer $4-10 trades for market orders. That is just so much hype for the uninformed newbie.

I never do market orders. I only do limit orders.

    Best wishes.

Scottrades are 7.00 market and 12.00 limit about the only good time to use a market order is if your stock is selling off fast and you want out fast, or you are wanting a stock thats shooting through the roof and want it at any nearby current price.

Scottrade is $7 for all stock trades. Market and limit for example are both $7.
