I use UltraEdit - which is current, but it's been around since the early '90s, Corel Draw too. The oldest program on my PC is a version of asteroids I wrote back in '95. I've got Windows 3.11 for WorkGroups and some apps on a Compaq Luggable sitting in my office. You remember - the back breaking laptops with the 4 inch amber screens . Hey - it's 256 shades of amber though!
My copy of 3D Studio Max (student version) is from 2000, thats the oldest I can think of that I still use. Up until recently I used an old PhotoShop that was probably older but running CS now.
Macromedia Fireworks version 1.0, it rocks. Easy, fast and it came free with a computer magazine couple of years ago!
I still play Tetris once and a while. Had it on the Commodore 64 but have a slightly updated version for the PC. Still has a pixelated Russia in the background though
FlashGet 1.2 2 years old. The advantage is that this thing splits downloads to 30 parts. Newer versions splits only upto 10 parts.
Microsoft SourceSafe6.0 I think the last release of that was in about '96, although it is still the production release. It works, so I rather not spend a few thousand on a 3rd party utility for development source control. Gotta love the MSDN subscriptions!
Ha ha, got ya all beat. I still use (rather maintain) a system for the finance industry that I wrote starting in 1981; compiled MS BASIC, Btrieve ISAM, originally ran under DOS, then WIN 3.1, 95, 98, now XP. And, I still derive an annual maintenance fee for a few (<10) installations. BTW, not even thinking that the system would still be around for Y2K, I designed the database around a two digit year. Had to go through hundreds of programs and write a db modifier in 1999.
I still use the Great Elk circa '95 and 16bit. My version of photoshop v4 is about the same age. Both do what I need. Sarah
photo shop really hasnt changed all that much since version 2ish or was it 3 when they introduced layers....
Paint Shop Pro 4.12 copyright 1991-1996. Of all the image editing software I have, it is my favorite for resizing/resampling. Shannon
Copyright 1992-2000 for 6.0a at least, don't use it that much right now but it's a treat to have. You can use it for any file type as a backup program (though remember to backup the VSS database ) and then you can get an old version of any file, it's truly a time and frustration saver.
I really don't understand why you guys like old versions... I visit cnet every day and try to get hold of the latest updates of all my programs Can't wait for Norton 2006 to be ready
