I have finally decided to group a collection of my websites under one parent brand, but I'm not sure what is better for SEO. I'll have the parent site: mainsite.com. Then I'll have a series of subsites to add to it: subsite1, subsite2, etc. In terms of SEO, which is better: subsite.mainsite.com, or mainsite.com/subsite
From what I know mainsite.com/subsite is the better choice although I use both. Subdomains have been used as exploits in the past and don't seemed to be favored as much unless it's for a blog or maybe a subset of the business. They are still good as long as they are not seen as spam. Sub folders work well when you want to connect it to the main site. Basically like an offset of the main site. Whereas the subdomain may be unique sites on their own.
i recommend you to use folders instead of sub-domain, because the pr flow is good between main website and a folder rather between domain and subdomain,
Thanks guys - that was kind of my thinking as well. I'd much rather do the subfolder thing instead of the subdomain. I just wasn't sure if it was more difficult for search engines to crawl...
Subfolders are a better way to rank quicker. However, if you use sub-domains you can show up 3 or 4 different times in Bing and Yahoo searches. Not with Google though!
if your site have many pages like 4000 or 10000 so make sub domain like subsite.mainsite.com and u have not more pages like 100 or 200 so work on this domain mainsite.com/subsite
