Whats better? Shopping cart software + Host OR All-in-one Ecommerce website solution?

I am using yahoo small business ecommerce for my ecommerce site right now, but I am very dissapointed in the extent to which I can change the design of the website.

I am having a look at sunshop and it looks like good software to make an ecommerce site.

Do you guys have any thoughts or opinions on how shopping cart software + hosting compares to an all-inclusive ecommerce solution?

    Thanks,
    Sam

You're seeing one of the benefits already; of being able to change up the design of your shop. Sounds like Yahoo SB is a good place to start but it's like a shopping cart with training wheels :)
Have you played around with any of the open source carts like OpenCart, ZenCart, etc.?

Its all depend on you dude. If you have more technical knowledge and time to integrate, manage, maintain all technical aspect of your shop then go with shopping cart script and make your shop., ( I would suggest AJ Shopping cart 4 you )

If you dont want to strain much and need eshop facility. then get services from ZSCART - which is saas based ecommerce solution. Make your shop with in a minute in easy monthly payment methods.

It depends how comfortable you are really...

Since you are coming from a hosted cart and want to move to a self hosted shopping cart you'll find that there is going to be a ton of things to learn as the learning curve is pretty steep

What I would suggest is get one of these cheap hosting solutions that are only a few bucks a month and throw a test site onto it, you can take a little time to learn how to set it up etc and see how you like it.

After that though you'll need a decent hos depending on the traffic your site gets

You may not need to choose between. Nowadays many ecommerce software vendors can provide hosting as well. That way you get hosting that's optimized for the particular ecommerce product, and a one-stop shop for support in case you have any problems.

I would go with a ecommerce software and your own hosting package. In my experience it means you have more control & can make more changes to the site and functionality.

I prefer shopping carts. I suggest you should consider this shopping cart software comparison chart. This will allow you to review and compare shopping cart. With detailed information about shopping cart's features and functions, it will give you a better insight and proper evaluation about shopping carts. You may find the right shopping cart or at least the idea of the roght shopping cart for you.
