whats better for indexing? creating a howto site...general howto vs niche howto?

hi,
ive been working on my programming skills for awhile now and decided to create my first site. i was wondering if it matters if i put all my niches i enjoy reading/writing about into one site vs splitting up the niches and launching smaller multiple sites.

i will go with smaller multiple sites and make a small network .

 

From a linking and advertising perspective, splitting up the topics into their own sites is great -

From a maintenance perspective, it might get cumbersome to manage all the sites.
