about 2 years ago I had a page first ranking bottom of first page then dropping to place 11 or so the LOSS in traffic was some 90% or more. of course page 1 always is better than page 2 top of page one better then mid or lower section. in my own 11 years surfing experience - in most cases i fid my results easily among first page results - most of the time top half of first pages.
and, whilst it's contrary to what many think, it appears you might get more traffic at 10 than you do at 8 or 9.
Based on 36,389,567 search queries with 19,434,540 clickthroughs the answer is bottom of page 1. If your site moves from the bottom of page 1 to top of page 2 your traffic will decrease by -77.9% The interesting positions are 9 and 10 because 9 gives 5.1% more traffic than 10. Yes, I think the 11th result is definitely a better one to have. Because, more people will pay attention to it. I pay less attention to the results near the bottom of each SERP.
