I wonder which traffic analysis tool is the best one for real-time traffic tracking? StatCounter? I'd like to be able to check real time where my visitors are coming and if from Google, which keywords. I can check this with AwStats, however sometimes I have to wait even more than 24 hours to see stats for the previos day.
AwStats allows you to schedule updates. You can set the cron job to every 5 minutes if you want. I homebrewed my own visitor tracker based software and I would suggest you do the same if you want real time numbers. Mine was completely session based and walks across apache logs and then caches links session id to where they went/what they did etc. very detailed for affiliate tracking and visitor movements.
Thanks for your advice. I didn't know that it's possible to schedule the AwStats updates. So I would set them to update every hour, that would be ideal. However, I don't know how to set up a cron job for it.
Anyone knows how can I set up the cron job to update my Awstats every hour? Also, I wonder if this frequent updating won't cause any downtime to my sites? Isn't that too much work for the server?
if you want full statistics, and i mean - see what every user is using, and in an easy way everyone can understand - check out my signature.
I run awstats on my personal server and it's setup to allow me to refresh the stats whenever I want (there is a link to refresh the stats via cgi on the stats page at the top)
Mint (haveamint.com) is a great stats script for real time. You'll need a few good plugin's than just the standard, but that's the whole idea of it, install what you want to see. Mine copy (xseria.com/mint) just shows the basics but it's recording just as much as analytics is in the background.
Acutally by deafult it is 24Hrs late, but you can set the date to the current day (click on the big dates, top right) to make it kinda real time. However it's still not a proper real time stat script like haveamint.com.
I have AWStats update when I click on the button to update. No more waiting for a whole day to check the stats. I just look at the stats when I feel like..
opentracker.net has been developing its real-time tracking tool since 2003 - you see all visitors in real-time and can drill down to their clickstreams. The entire clickstream history of all visitors is available as well as extensive information about search terms, referrers, first & last visit, company, IP address, etc.
