What's a link farm?

Someone just PMed me saying one of my websites is a link farm, so I asked myself "What's a link farm"?

Isn't a link farm a site with over 200 outgoing links? What about 45?

 

if you took a directory and uncategoriezed it and put all the links on 1 page you would have a link farm =)

It is still link farm. You have to have an useful content on site with links, not just 2 lines of text.

imho it is ok... as long as your links are related to your site and does not go beyond 100.

 

You must get links to your 'partners' to another sites! Not link to partners.php.

 

example of link farm. pixel advertising sites seems to me to be the worst link farms of them all. But I heard people say they still get their site spidered quickly by advertising on those pixel sites though.

google webmaster guidelines suggest to keep the links per page to 100 or less, and I'm not certain if there is any penalty if there's more links than that since I have not tried to push beyond that limit.
