I'm just wondering if I were want to buy one should I use godaddy, name, namecheap. So many choices. Also could anyone provide link ot good hosts I can host a site from. I was looking at godaddy, it looked quite interesting, namecheap seems too expensive and just host had good rates but bad reviews. So any advice would be appricaited. Also do you know what Search Engine Visibility is, go daddy was offering it should I get it?
    Thanks
edit: also I'm very new to this, what is the difference between windows and lunix hosting?

I prefer Dyna Dot and MyDomain as they have the easiest user interfaces to use and solid pricing. Godaddy is OK, they always have a lot of sales and coupons.

You can register domains anywhere. Any Godaddy reseller, 1 and 1, Network Solutions, Buy Domains.com, your hosting company probably sells them.
Buy where it is most convenient.
I use a Reseller site owed by a friend.
It's really not a big deal since all sales are back by ICANN rules and regs. Just stay away from unknown, "fly by night" registrars.
If you are looking for discounts and such, that's another story, but it really is not worth buying someplace strange just for a discount of a $1, unless you are buying 100's at a time.

If you want to BUY domains that are already registered....here, Name Pros, DN Forum, Sedo, Afternic, Sitepoint, are the most used.

If you plan on building a brand with your domain I highly suggest you register your domain at name.com

If you plan on selling the domain in the near future i suggest registering your domain at godaddy.

namecheap.com is the best. Free SSL (current promotion) + private whois. Not the cheapest though, unlike what it's name suggests..
